The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is seeking individuals interested in attending their 2025 Volunteer Wildland Fire Crew Academy.
The upcoming Academy is a six-week-long course from February 5, 2025, to March 12, 2025. Classroom sessions are tentatively scheduled on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 10 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 am to 6 pm. Upon successful completion, Academy graduates will receive their Firefighter I Certification.

General Information
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Volunteer Program is composed of a collective citizens group with a genuine and shared desire to partner with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office by volunteering their services while learning more about the internal workings of the public safety community. As the population in El Paso County increases, so does the demand for service in the Sheriff's Office. The use of citizen volunteers assists the Sheriff's Office in meeting these demands, and as the demand continues to grow, so will the need for active citizen participation.
Specific Requirements:
- Must be willing to accept and take direction in high-stress environments.
- Must be able to pass a physical agility test.
- Must meet the minimum age requirement of 18 (at the time of application).
- Must successfully pass a fingerprint-based background check and truth verification examination.
- Must be willing to learn required qualifications and/or certifications.
- Must be willing to commit at least 80 volunteer hours annually.
