On Thursday, October 4, 2018, The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was inducted into the Special Olympics Colorado Hall of Fame as the 2018 Law Enforcement Torch Run Agency of the Year. El Paso County Sheriff's Office has been a long-time supporter of Special Olympics Colorado and an active Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) partner since 2002.
Over the past sixteen years, in addition to the Law Enforcement Torch Run, El Paso County Deputies and civilian personnel have participated in multiple events including the Polar Plunge, Plane Pull, No Shave November, Denver Phone-A-Thon and various Tip-a-Cop events. You can always find someone from the Sheriff’s Office volunteering at regional events to present medals and cheer on the athletes.
In 2017, the agency was recognized as the Law Enforcement Agency of the Year for raising nearly $54,000 to support Special Olympics Colorado athletes. The Sheriff’s Office is proud of its efforts to support the success of athletes through the mission of Special Olympics to transform lives through the power and joy of sports.
