Around 09:50 A.M. today, the El Paso County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call from a residence in the 1100 block of Denise Drive. The caller reported someone was attacked with an axe inside the residence. The caller advised the victim and suspect were known to each other.
As deputies were responding, the suspect left the area on a bicycle. When deputies arrived, they rendered medical aid to the victim who suffered injuries consistent with being struck with a blunt end of the axe, which was located at the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening.
The suspect is identified as 40-year-old Steven Barcelona. Deputies along with Officers from the Fountain Police Department conducted an extensive search of the Stratmoor Valley neighborhood using K-9 and drones but were unable to locate Mr. Barcelona.
