Feb 28, 2018 - 6:35am

On February 27, 2018, the Sheriff's Office was made aware of a handwritten threat left in the bathroom at Webster Elementary School.  This threat was investigated fully by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and was deemed to be a non-credible threat.

On February 28, 2018, at student from Sunrise Elementary was sent a text containing the same verbiage as the note left in the bathroom at Webster Elementary School on February 27, 2018.  This was also investigated fully and a student was charged with Interference of Faculty, Staff and Students of Educational Institutions, which is a Misdemeanor 1.   The threat was fully investigated and deemed non-credible.

Widefield School District is reporting and handling these threats and situations appropriately.

The Sheriff's Office is working closely with our School District Partners to investigate and curb the large uptick we have seen in school threats.  We strongly encourage parents to have a conversation with their children about school threats and the impact it has on schools and the community.

We also encourage parents to speak with your children about the seriousness of the charges they could be facing should they make a threat towards students, faculty or school as a whole.
