On May 16, 2024, at about 9:07 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check request in the 500 block of Cottonwood Dr. in unincorporated El Paso County. Upon arrival, deputies located two deceased adults, one male and one female.

On May 16, 2024, at 10:28 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a shooting had occurred in the 6000 block of Chantilly Pl, in unincorporated El Paso County.  Multiple callers reported 6-10 shots fired in the area.

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal issued the following statement after the Board of El Paso County Commissioners approved $15 million in financing for a substation located near Falcon in unincorporated El Paso County:

Yesterday, during the Board of County Commissioners meeting in El Paso County, Commissioners voted 4-0 in favor of Resolution 24-159, authorizing litigation against the state of Colorado to challenge the provision of two revised statutes.
