Sheriff Bill Elder has downgraded Stage Two Fire Restrictions to Stage One Fire Restrictions for all of the unincorporated areas of El Paso County.  The Stage I Fire Restrictions shall go into effect immediately and the following are prohibited:

In the past 24 hours, 14 deputies have lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19. This brings the current total of infected employees to 16 this week. All employees and inmates who have had direct or indirect contact, or other work-related contact have been notified.

On October 21, 2020, between approximately 1:00 PM through 3:50 PM, packages were delivered to the 10000 block of Deer Meadow Circle as well as the 6000 block of Kettle Fire Trail. Shortly after the packages were delivered, the packages were stolen.

In recent months, there has been an increase of vehicle break-ins at trail heads. Preliminary investigation has revealed suspects watching for victims to hide purses/wallets in their vehicle. They wait until it's clear then smash windows to steal those hidden items.

On April 13, 2020, detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit apprehended Ryan Carneal, DOB: 6/1/76, when he arrived at the El Paso County courthouse for a hearing.

On October 18, 2020, at approximately 11:45 AM, an inmate who was housed in the Sprung Structure on the El Paso County Jail campus scaled the barbed wire fence and escaped from custody of the El Paso County Jail.

On September 30, 2020, at approximately 4:16 AM, deputies were dispatched to a shooting in the 400 block of Crestridge Avenue.

On May 13, 2020, at approximately 1:36 PM, our Communications Center dispatched Manitou Springs Police officers to El Paso Boulevard in Manitou Springs on a Check the Welfare call.  After arriving on scene, officers discovered a deceased male inside a residence.

On September 19, 2020, at approximately 3:58 PM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a Domestic Violence situation occurring in the 14000 block of Clifford Drive located in Peyton, Colorado.  

On September 3, 2020, we released a media release attempting to locate Brendan Camous (DOB: 07/10/93) and Clinton Peterson (DOB: 05/28/91).

On Saturday, September 12, 2020, at approximately 10:52 AM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a call indicating a shooting occurred in the 1600 block of Maxwell Street.  When deputies arrived on scene, they found a deceased female.

On September 14, 2020, at approximately 3:45 AM, at a gas station located in the 1000 block of 5th Street in Calhan, Colorado, a white male approached a victim and demanded a ride at gun point.

On Saturday, September 12, 2020, at approximately 10:52 AM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a call indicating a shooting occurred in the 1600 block of Maxwell Street.  When deputies arrived on scene, they found a deceased female.

On July 31, 2020, at approximately 6:03 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call from a party who reported seeing a person laying on the side of the road on Highway 24 in Cascade.

Deputies responded to the area and discovered an adult female deceased.

On August 28, 2020, at approximately 12:18 AM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call regarding shots being fired near the Walgreens, located at 7392 McLaughlin Road.

On August 26, 2020, at approximately 11:37 AM, the El Paso Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a plane crash in the 6000 block of McCandlish Road. The caller stated the aircraft appeared to be attempting to land when it flipped over and came to rest upside down.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation in August 2020, investigating criminal allegations that occurred in base housing on Schriever Air Force Base.

On August 26, 2020, at approximately 11:37 AM, the El Paso Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a plane crash in the 6000 block of McCandlish Road. One of the callers stated the aircraft appeared to be attempting to land when it flipped over and came to rest upside down.

On August 25, 2020, at approximately 9:49 PM hours, deputies were dispatched to the 6900 Caballero Avenue in reference to a shooting.

On August 24, 2020, at approximately 11:15 PM, one of our lieutenants attempted a traffic stop on Security Boulevard at Norman Drive. The suspect vehicle, an older model maroon Toyota Corolla, failed to stop.

The Sheriff's Office has received intelligence of another phone scam.  The caller threatens the individual they have an active warrant and must obtain a money order and meet at a specific location to pay to clear up the warrant.

Sheriff's Office Investigates Shooting on Longhorn Point

On August 23, 2020, at approximately 1:41 AM, deputies were dispatched to a shooting at a property in the 20000 block of Longhorn Point, located in unincorporated El Paso County, Colorado.

The El Paso County Jail Lobby Closure 

The El Paso County Jail, located at 2739 East Las Vegas Street, main lobby will be closed for remodeling beginning on August 19, 2020. This remodeling project is scheduled for completion on or about December 12, 2020. 

On August 17, 2020, a sergeant was conducting follow-up on a Motor Vehicle Theft/Burglary case in the 2700 block Golden Currant View when he came across a stolen Ford Taurus.
